Business Incentives & Assistance

Sussex County works closely with local municipalities and several State and Federal agencies to assist existing and new companies access a wide array of business assistance programs. Business assistance programs are generally classified into four categories: tax incentive/credit programs, financial assistance, workforce programs and small business resources.

  • Tax Incentive and Tax Credits - Tax incentive programs aim to encourage investment and job creation/retention through the reduction of future tax liabilities, or the awarding of refundable tax credits. The SCEDP will help businesses identify the program most appropriate for their needs.
  • Financial Assistance - Financial assistance programs aim to encourage investment and job creation/retention through the increased availability of, or the reduction in the cost of capital. The SCEDP acts as a referral source for both existing and emerging businesses and assists in access to small issue bond financing and other partnership opportunities in new development as well as providing information on state and federal loan and loan guarantee programs.

Small Business Resources - From advice on creating a business plan, to referrals on venture capital organizations, this is the first stop for small growing businesses. Small businesses are the growth engine of our economy, but often small business owners don’t know where to turn for information on financing, human resource issues, and marketing assistance. The resources below are all targeted to helping small business owners efficiently tackle growth issues so they can focus on their customers.
